PROJECT OVERVIEW
We recently completed the electrical services required for a substantial decarbonisation and HVAC upgrade project for a confidential Defence Sector customer, which saw us overcome many challenges. The project involved new power supplies to over 300 indoor AC cassettes, three phase supplies to over 60 VRF condensers, and new LV distribution equipment and sub mains to serve the outdoor units. The project required detailed planning and co-ordination between all parties and a high level of sensitivity around security and safety across two fully occupied buildings.
SCOPE OF WORKS
- Installation of new VRF heating & cooling units, including supplies to 300x internal AC ceiling cassettes, and 68x 3-phase external VRF condensers
- New supplies for high rated current heater batteries retrofitted into existing AHU’s to increase heating capacity
- Installation of 10x new LV distribution boards within external GRP kiosks to supply HVAC equipment
- Over 5000m of SWA cable installed
CHALLENGES
- An aggressive programme combined with a short design period which overlapped with our works commencing on site
- Multiple stakeholder liaison and coordination, such as with tenant and landlord teams
- The sheer size of site across two large, occupied buildings, capable of housing up to 2,000 people
- Deadlines for every internal zone due to handovers and tenants having to move back into working areas
- Site teams working in freezing cold temperatures outdoors throughout November and December
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Two of our electricians stepped up to their first supervisory roles whilst completing this project
- Acquiring materials with long lead times at late notice
- Adapting to constantly changing work patterns due to client demands and being granted access to the work areas.
- Minimal disruption to the client’s daily operations throughout the entire project
